Wer oder was ist "hoi polloi"? Hoi polloi kommt aus dem Altgriechischen und wird im modernen Englisch gebraucht, um sich abfällig über „das gemeine Volk“ zu äußern. Bsp: „My snobbish uncle refused to mix with the hoi polloi“. Übrigens: Das ähnlich klingende "hoity-toity" bedeutet "hochnäsig" und wird ganz im Gegensatz zu "hoi polloi" oft mit der upper class in Verbindung gebracht.
